Pride 12 ...prejudice immortal

Today twelve years ago on 28th of may 1998 ...almost two years before the new millennium...Pakistan became a Nuclear Power after conducting a series of nuclear test at chaghi in the Baluchistan province. That day the world witnessed a hill in chaghi turned its color ...it was a amazing sight.
As the years went by...the pride was overtaken by the prejudic
e....as the political government was overthrown....the military regime tried to take all the credit for making Pakistan a nuclear power...due to the sensitivity of this issue and the pressure of the united nation to roll back the nuclear program...most of the people involved in this program were either removed or arrested on falsified allegations....of helping or planning to help other non nuclear states such as North Korea and Iran. The Khan network remained one of the most preferred terms by the spokespersons in the Bush Administration.
It is indeed ironic that in this past decade two Khan's of Pakistan...Abdul Qadeer Khan the architect of nuclear program and Shahid Khan afridi the cricket skipper...have been Praised,prized,punished,pillorized,pushed,pumped,perturbed,pitied,Pestered,pardoned,penned,pissed,pressured,.....who needs a roget's thesaurus....you think of a P-word and the Pakistani's have done it with the two Phans...oh sorry I mean the two Khans.
So whether you believe in the fairytale endings...or the Shakespearean beginning ....its.. All's well that ends well....today on the twelveth anniversary of the Nuclear blasts....Shahid khan afridi so desperately need to win a trophy for Pakistan to get his own pride back but the Honerable Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan is a free man...enjoying his freedom with pride among the grateful Nation...who wants nothing from him...isn't it an eternal love.....

Target killing in Karachi....

Karachi being the biggest port city of Pakistan and the industrial hub...has the untouchable elites of three kinds.....
1.Elites with money and wealth

2.Elites with Power and
3 Elites with both Wealth and Power.
The police and Army has no control or power over them....they use and abuse political govenment and Military dictators alike...
They donot treat people as Human beings....they Kill, rape and torture at will without any fear of punishment or reprisals....Most of them are hereditary elites since the time of the British raj and few became elite later on...by the benefit of working for the industry established by the order of Her Majesty's government....on a bilateral relation. They call the shots choose and get rid of the the government with such an ease that it even surprises the leaders who come in with a majority of popular votes or the whole Army's support...
In order to keep these elites in a little manageable state and save the face...the police,Arm
y and the government seeks help of the pressure groups and the vice versa....In this game MQM has proved very profitable....you kill a handful of their lower level unknown and Unwanted no good workers ....and off they come out with rolled up sleeves....and starts protesting...and disturbing the peace of their own neighborhoods and towns...
S
ince Karachi is the industrial hub there are poor and helpless people from all over the country and beyond. These poor and helpless people re group here on ethnic and racial grounds which is so much beneficial for the Elites as they keep inciting Hatred and communal differences. For example recently we heard and saw the sense of neglect and injustice is growing among the minority people of Hazara wal after the renaming of the province Khyber-Pakhtunkha....so by killing few people from both sides....the tensions were increased to a new height....the most interesting thing being observed in this episode of the killing game is that..MQM is still the worst off...being the largest group in the city...having eighty percent of the vote bank and street power....and having a history of violent clashes with both of the rival groups i.e ANP representing the local Pakhtuns(pushtuns) and the not yet fully known group of Hazara people..Both of them blame each other as well as criticize the Government and MQM for inciting and arousing ethinic tensions...and hate.
This is so bad for the MQM at this particular time because they were on an upward march to gain ground in the Pun
jab and northern area's of Pakistan ...the government was forced to hand over the security of Karachi to Para-Military Rangers...with more powers for search and arrest...So Now in karachi the powers of Police are undermined by the deployment of Rangers...there is a tussle between MQM's governor and PPP's Chief Minister....the city government and local bodies were dissolved ...MQM hates that too...the pace of development has been halted...both MQM and ANP hates that...the Judiciary is reopening all the cases dismissed under NRO...PPP hates that....The US Administration ,Army and FBI wants to pursue Alqaeeda and Taliban in hiding in Karachi.....the Pak Army Hates that ....So doesn't it looks like somebody is manipulating everybody ...and if that's not the Elites of this city than who is....after all nobody from out side may have so much interest in the city to do all this....its the Elites who gain more power and wealth from the disturbances and lack of rule of law ....
It is not very difficult to indentify and differentiate these elites of the city from other ordinary people and civilians.....when we walk or drive by their huge mansions we see smartly dressed multiple Armed guards of a private security agency...Or the Police encampment outside the boundry wall...or Both for the Elites of the third kind...the super Elites even have Rangers guarding their houses and vehicles....

Bugger....we don't eat Non veg....

Once Upon a time there was a poor farmer in the far far remote land....it was so hard for him to make his ends meet and feed himself and his family...he had only one lamb that was his daughter's favorite and they used to call it Mary.
One Day the Farmer's childhood friend from the US came and in order to Pamper him he slaughtered the lamb, cleaned and cooked it on wood and placed it in front of his friend....and the friend said...."

The Protest !

Karachi it seems is synonymous to the word protest ....we have an unbelievable culture of protest ...we protest for the most unbelievable things, issues and causes....sometimes it does and sometimes it even does not concerns us...but we protest...its in our blood..in our jeans...and in our head...we have been protesting for years....there are three main places in the city where you can catch an ongoing protest any day and you don't have to be born lucky....One of those places is Bander road (M.A.Jinnah rd) which is the longest and widest road in karachi linking the karachi port to sohrab goth supper highway....the enterence to the city from up-country....
the other two main places of protest are the regal chowk in sadder and the Binori town mosque....beside these some people in recent times prefer to protest in front of the press club...regular protest and demonstrations are held there but the number of protesters is usually very small...and it usually disperse without disturbing the traffic.....in olden times some protests used to be held in front of the US consulate near the metropole hotel...but now it is out of bound for any protest.....not even the feminist NGO's are allowed to protest there....police and other law enforcing agencies usually raid the protesters two days before their planned protest if they plan to protest in front or near the US consulate...lol
Just like the places we also happen to have a number of organised protesters ...very professional...very dedicated..very. Top in this list is the Jamait ay Islami....one of the best and organised in the world ...it can organise a very successful protest demonstration within hours....no matter what...their protest are usually Anti-American...Anti-Zionist....pro-muslim...Anti-government and pro-establisment
Next is MQM....they started their struggle as a protest....their protests are usually very violent ...many people die or are injured when and if they protest....so every government tries to prevent them from protest....they love to protest and kill more than they enjoy being in the govenment...
recently there is a new player in this game...PTI..Pakistan tehreek ay Insaaf (struggle for justice) under the able leadership of jemima's Imran Khan.... so far they have not been able to organise a very meaning ful protest....but they have the money, the foreign backing and the support of NGO's and then of course the face value of Khan saab...being the national hero and world famous cricketer...their protest usually gets the best media attention both locally as well as in international media....khan saab is probably the best known protester after the late Benazir Bhutto....
On Wednesday May the 19th Jamait ay islami's womens wing took to the street on Bander road....against the facebook group...Draw Muhammad day.... friday is usually the favorite protest day of jamait ay islami because most male muslims gather in mosques to offer the juma prayers....Unfortunately the Pakistan telecommunication Authority PTA acted timely on the directive of the Lahore High court and shut down Facebook throughout the country...so on friday when I came out of the mosque after juma prayers I saw very relaxed JI activist...almost smiling at me...or engaged in shopping of fruits and other edibles....

I remember few years ago an uncle came from abroad and complained about an email... computer and internet was very new
back then and unfortunately my previous generation was not computer literate....it used to be very difficult to explain to the elders how an email sent to one person is read by the entire family all across the globe...by cc or bcc....and than there was the difference of british/american/slang ..english....initially we faced a lot of lost in translation scenario....and most of the time ended up enraging our uncles, aunts ,cousins and friends all over the world instead of making friends and improving relations....so the interesting thing is that somebody stopped that uncle by saying ..."Internet wars are for internet...." listening to this the uncle from abroad got very relaxed ...and had a great time here....

SM given the status of University....

One day our jolly good principal at the SM Law had nothing better to do nothing at all in his spacious airconditioned office...or may be he was hidding from someone so he came to our class for one of his motivational extra curricular lectures....the focus that day was his, as the principal of the college and the dean faculty of law at the university of Karachi ,inability to award a degree to the students of his college on merit. He went on saying that we are trying to have the status of a full fledged University which can do all the thing a university does...separately and independently of the huge University of Karachi who in his opinion was treating the faculty of Law as an unwanted child....a kind of a burden on its over burdened shoulders...
Failing to dissuade me to continue the course by this motivational lecture...he was fired replaced by the present one....and exams were not held a year and a half after the end of the course....which was enough time for me and my sponsors to loose track of what I was actually pursuing....those were the real fun days...
Anyways, even if the SM law did not achieve the University status due to the lack of interest of its foreign sponsors and donors....(lol)...it is indeed heart warming to know that one of its sister institution and alma mater of Quaid i Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah the founder of Pakistan ,Sindh Madrasa tul Islam founded by Hassan Aly Effandi in 1885 gets the charter by the President of Pakistan Mr Zardari who it is claimed is a relative of Khan bahadur Hassan aly effandi the founder.

To be or not to be...the King ...?

Yesterday was One of those days...yes people who are born, bred or have had bread for a period of time ..here in karachi may know exactly what I meant by it....On a day like yesterday everybody wakes up excited or quickly learns that something is about to happen...something big...sometimes it does and sometimes it does not happen....that's the beauty of it...
So as expected first breaking news of the day was that the lahore High court dismissed the Interior Minister and Honerable Senator Rehman Malik's review petition thus his sentence stood restored.....speculation were pointing towards a resignation and then arrest of the honorable senator....but President Zardari on the advice of the PrimeMinister of Pakistan using his presidential powers under article 45 of the constitution of Pakistan remitted the sentence.
45. President's power to grant pardon, etc.
The President shall have power to grant pardon, reprieve and respite, and to remit, suspend or commute any sentence passed by any court, tribunal or other authority.
Now all this is happening or has happened in the backdrop of another political and constitutional debate going on in the country as to what role should the president have or should have after the restoration of Parliamentry form of government through the 18th Amendment to the constitution of pakistan of 1973.
The Lahore High court fired another shot in this regard....by issuing notice to the President Zardari on dual office i.e the office of President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the ofice of the Co-Chairperson of Pakistan peoples party which he shares with his own son Bilawal.
Now imagine this all happening on the same day and to add spice in the lives of the people of Karachi...The president and the chief justice of supreme court and many others were here on private visits....wow.
Recently President Zardari agreed to giving up all the constitutional powers of the president that made him the king of Pakistan accumulated over the years by the able leadership of former Presidents of Pakistan who were also military dictators and wanted to be the King of Pakistan
well if we look back at the history of pakistan many people have dreamed of being a king of Pakistan from Iskandar Mirza(first President) to Pervaz Musharruf
(first CEO)
It is still not clear what President Zardari is dreaming right now because so far all that he has done and let happen only suggests that he wants to be a leader like the Queen of England....

If the high court decides that he must leave the office of the party co-chair then he may have very little say left in the affairs of the state.Or if he does so on his own due to the pressures within the party...than there will be very little chance for him to be able to keep the office of the President as well...so there is no chance of President Zardari becoming the Queen of Pakistan...or whatever...

Now the thing is that while the lahore High court was reviewing his past ..president zardari was present in karachi...so his future must be safe in Islamabad....or he couldn't be here saving his lieutenant..I remember numerous similar days during the previous Musharraf regime....but I don't recall him being here in karachi on any of those day....having the benefit of dual garb (Army chief +President)himself...don't know why I always felt that he had something to do with the fierce campaigns against him....and soon after he surrendered the army uniform and staff....he was gone without any of those days.... Just like that...
